Curls N Pearls

{CLOSED} Julep Nail Polish Review + Giveaway

Since I am always on the lookout for great nail polish and manicure solutions I was thrilled to be contacted by Julep. Julep is a hand, nail and foot care brand with four boutique nail parlors in the Seattle area, as well as an online boutique.

In this post:

Julep Nail Vernis Review – Maya & Taylor

Julep sent me the introductory “Classic With a Twist” Maven Box, which included two full size polishes – Maya and Taylor, and the Glow On Age Defying Hand Brightener (I love this lotion!). Since I love nude tones, the color Maya, a shimmery pink pearl, immediately caught my eye. Surprisingly, I found that I preferred Taylor, a deep periwinkle. I’m not particularly sure why, but you can decide for yourself from these pics.

Here is a breakdown of my experience with Julep Nail Vernis.

*While a one-time purchase from the Julep Nail Vernis line results in a more expensive cost per fluid ounce, a Julep Maven membership will reduce the price per ounce considerably and is a great fit for those of us who love the idea of receiving a customized package that includes two new polishes along with other goodies each month. Learn more about the Julep Maven program here.

I have never used a Julep nail polish before but i came across a review on youtube and ever since have been wanting to try! I Seem to go for bright colors, mostly in the summer, but sometimes during the winter if im feeling a little summertime blues ill put on a bright color just to make me feel better! So i think the color i would like to try most from Julep would be Samantha! It seems like such a pretty pink color! With that being said i would be happy to win ANY of the nail polishes and willing to try any color! :)

I love darker shades in the winter, but ones that still have some color. Chip resistant is a huge plus for me!

Thanks for doing this giveaway! I haven’t had a chance to try Julep yet and really have been wanting to for a while. So far OPI “In the Spot Light-pink” is my favorite polish.

I’m crazy about the way my hands and nails look. I grew up with my grandma telling me that the hands is the only place that you can’t hide the aging process. And that you should always have your hands looking fantastic. I love all shades of red for my hands. Just like the Catherine and the Salma. Another one of my favorites is OPI’s Lincoln Park after dark. I’ve been to Julep’s parlor before and it’s amazing. I totally recommend!

  • Emily K says:

Does nail polish usually contain toluene? That’s pretty horrific, if so, and I can’t believe I never knew that.

On the brighter side, I find that men LOVE blue nail polish. Whenever I wear it, I always get compliments from male friends and strangers, so I hope the giveaway includes the Taylor color.

Lastly, a question: what exactly does “chip resistant” mean? It seems like all the nail polish lines say they that. Did you do any kind of empirical side-by-side wear test? Or at least could you estimate how long it took before it started to chip off?

    January 18, 2012 at 9:10 pm
    • Christina says:

Hi Emily! I agree with the toulene being kind of shocking. All Lacquered Up has a great post about which lines are and aren’t toulene free: http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2007/05/big-3-chemicals-that-is.html

Funny about men and the blue polish. I myself didn’t think I’d like that color, but I actually did – a lot!

Chip resistant for me means anything beyond 5 days. I have horribly thin nails that are prone to peeling – so I often experience chipping with nail polish. I used CND Stickey for my base, and Seche Vite as my top coat, so that could also help me to avoid chipping. (that is my favorite top coat) If you have good nails (e.g. strong) then your manicure should last a good length of time.

I hope this helps! And thank you for entering the giveaway. :)

Are the polishes safe for children who will chew on painted nails? I am a mother of twin 8-year-olds who love to have their nails painted. I am looking for safe, long-wearing polish in light little girl colors. For myself, I like colors that do not stain my nails if I paint them in deep reds and such.

Hi Candy! Here is what my contact at Julep has to say:

To answer your question, YES Julep polishes are safe for children as well as pregnant women! Interestingly enough, this is how Julep gained our name in the Seattle area- as being not only friendly to the environment, but to the health of our clients. Unlike many traditional brands, all of our polishes are free of DBP, toluene, formaldehyde and formaldehyde resin.

I hope this is helpful! Please let me know if you have any other questions.
