Smashbox has quickly moved up my list of favorites when it comes to makeup (see here, here and here). Chanel Perfection Lumiere has been my foundation of choice for about the past year, but during a recent Sephora trip I decided to change it up and try Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream.
It seems like the phrase “BB Cream” is everywhere these days when it comes to makeup. BB stands for Beauty Balm, which is basically a fancy way of describing a tinted moisturizer with SPF and other components for healthy skin while providing light coverage.
Here is what Smashbox has to say about their BB Cream:
So what does BB do?
PRIMES: Wear alone, or under your favorite foundation to create a smooth canvas.
PERFECTS: Tinted formula in 5 shades evens out skin for a flawless finish.
HYDRATES: Improves skin moisture in 4 weeks. Guaranteed.
PROTECTS: SPF 35 guards against UVA/UVB rays.
CONTROLS OIL: Minimizes shine with no chalky finish.
I awarded Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream with the highest rating for several reasons. I love that it has such a high SPF (35), and that it is less expensive than the Chanel Foundation ($39 versus $60). A little goes a very long way, so I expect not having to replace my bottle anytime soon.
While the coverage may not be best for hiding some imperfections, it works well on my skin and blends/evens out my complexion. I top the BB Cream with a dusting of powder foundation, mostly to “set” it and eliminate shine.
If you’re interested in trying Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream, keep in mind that the shades go on slightly darker than they seem in the swatches. (This is according to the saleswoman who assisted me at Sephora.)
Here is a complete breakdown of my likes and dislikes of the BB Cream:
