Curls N Pearls

Mani Monday: CND Shellac Fedora and Decadence Combo – with Pink Gold Sparkle-Effect Additive Glitter Fade

I’ve hoped to get my hands on the new Shellac colors set to become available this month, but unfortunately they haven’t yet debuted at my local CosmoProf. So in the meantime to satisfy my craving, I played around with layering and ended up with this deep burgundy shade. Pictured here is CND Shellac with two layers of Fedora topped with one coat of Decadence. The resulting shade reminds me of one of my all-time favorites, Essie’s Sole Mate. Using the CND Additive in Pink Gold Sparkle-Effect I created a subtle glitter fade, with more sparkle concentrated on the tips and fading ombr√©-style to a darker shade at the base.

I’m pretty pleased with the outcome! It’s subtle enough that it doesn’t seem too flashy to wear on all ten nails, and would definitely be office appropriate in my opinion. What do you think?

(Yes, I realize I’m holding the Haute Pink in this photo, not the Pink Gold that I actually used. No, there isn’t a reason for this. I just got mixed up.)

*Please Note: CND Shellac is a professional salon service product. Manicure prices typically range from $25-$45 and pedicures from $40-$60 depending on location. Visit cnd.com to find a salon near you.

Beautiful. How do you keep your cuticles looking so great? I struggle with this.

Hi Melinda! I struggle with it too – I make sure to take my pics the same day I do my nails, or the next day at the latest, which definitely helps. Before polishing I use CND Cuticle Away (http://goo.gl/RxkPe). I push them back first and also use nippers as needed.

The one tool that has really had made a huge difference for me is a curette, which is like a tiny spoon that you can use to gently scrap off whatever cuticle you cannot get with the nipper. It helps if you pull the edge if you pull the sidewalls away somewhat so you can see what you missed. I think this is the curette I have (there isn’t a visible logo on it): http://goo.gl/khPDJ It really is a huge help!
