3 Steps to a Hair Bow Created 2 Ways – Tutorial By Marc Anthony Hair Care

The hair bow: It looks like a bit of a task to create but in reality is really quite simple. It can be done in three easy steps and works remarkably well on straight, wavy or curly hair. The finish on each hair type looks quite different but equally quaint.  This look works well on many levels. It’s perfect for day functions as well as something a bit more formal. The trick is to keep it a little untidy so that it has a grown up finish. We like to show this in two different variations. The first has a ‘Gossip Girl’ pretty, casual vibe and the other is a bit more posh and proper.

3 Steps to a Hair Bow Created 2 Ways - Marc Anthony How-To Tutorial

HAIR BOW — HOW TO GET THE LOOK:

PRETTY CASUAL HALF UP
  1. Ponytail: First, add some texture to the hair with a bit of Beach Spray. Decide on your hair part and then separate two sections of hair from ear to ear over the crown. Pull both sides back and bind it with an elastic to create a half ponytail. Lightly spray the ponytail with Hairspray and gently back brush it. You want a bit more texture for hold and visual interest.Bow Ponytail Hair Tutorial
  2. Bunny Ears: Separate the pony into two sections. Take one section, bend it into a half oval shape and pin it in place. Repeat with the other section as if you are creating bunny ears.Ponytail Bow Hair Tutorial _MG_8444_edit2
  3. Wrap: Wrap the remaining piece of hair around the centre to create the middle of the bow and pin in place. Play with the bow a bit and, if you like, carefully spread it out to make it bigger. Spray lightly with Hairspray.Hair Bow How To Tutorial

Leaving the rest of the hair out gives this a relaxed finish and works really well with straight, waves or curls.

POSH AND PROPER

You can make this look dressy by taking the remaining hair that has been left out and creating another bow. Just repeat the same three steps: 1) Ponytail; 2) Bunny Ears; 3) Wrap. Adding another bow turns this into an updo that has a fresh modern take on your traditional updo’s. Give it a final spritz with Hairspray and you’re bows are perfectly wrapped.Hair Bow Like Lady Gaga Tutorial

Game of Thrones Daenerys Inspired Hair Tutorial

Oh, Daenerys. That hair! If you aren’t obsessed with the HBO series (and book) Game of Thrones, this is Daenerys, played by the lovely Emilia Clarke. In the medieval-fantasy series Daenerys’ platinum blonde locks are often in loose waves with a couple of twists or braids. I cut about three inches off my hair a while back, so I opted for twisting my hair and not braiding it to make up for the missing length. This is a super quick and easy hair tutorial, especially if you have naturally wavy hair that responds well to scrunching. I don’t, so I used a triple barrel curling iron to create loose, messy waves. Keep reading for the details.

1. Working in sections from the nape up, use a triple barrel curling iron to create loose beachy waves. If you were blessed with naturally wavy hair, just scrunch your hair and skip to the next step.

2. Once you have curled all of your hair, flip your head over and separate the curls with your fingers. Spray a small amount of a flexible hold hairspray to set the waves.

3. Pull a small section of hair near your hairline, between your temple and ear, twisting (or braiding) the section away from your face.

4. Secure with a bobby pin and repeat on the other side.

5. Pull a small section about the diameter of a quarter from behind one ear and loosely braid it. You can skip the braid if you want, but I thought it would be a fun and unexpected detail.

6. Secure the ends with a small clear elastic band.

Voila! Here are the supplies I used for this hair tutorial.
