At the beginning of the year, Maybelline introduced a new line of lip color to their collection – Maybelline Color Whisper by Color Sensational. Color Whisper stands out as a great option for women that like a naturally soft and shiny pout. Here’s what Maybelline has to say about Color Whisper:

The new line of super soft lightweight lipsticks includes 20 darling shades, ranging from super soft pinks to vibrant mauves and violets.

The first thing I noticed (and loved) about Color Whisper is how it glides on so smoothly, without dragging or feathering. Even better, it’s not at all sticky. The coverage is soft and slightly translucent. Color Whisper is a great option for women that prefer a natural and flirty pout – soft, hydrated, with a hint of shimmer.

While you’ll probably need to reapply after a meal, Color Whisper lasts for about 2-3 hours on its own. I’ve tried it by itself, and over a thin layer of chapstick (it’s that time of year after all) with similar results. Of course, sweeping on a natural lip liner before apply helps to extend wear.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (Makeup Review)

It’s probably safe to assume we’ve all been there. After preening for an hour or so we leave the house feeling gorgeous: every hair in place, every lash enveloped in mascara, lips lacquered to shiny perfection.

Fast forward one hour. You’ve stopped in the restroom – equipped with harsh lighting – only to find that your foundation is horribly mismatched for your skin tone. Whether its three shades darker than the rest of you, or awkwardly pale in comparison – it’s flat-out embarrassing. Like I said, we’ve all been there.

Perhaps worse than a mismatched shade would be the foundation that once again looks perfect as you leave the house, only to later discover that it’s creased and settled leaving you with a tired and haggard appearance.

Point is, finding the right foundation for your skin tone and type is so important. You can have the best smokey eye or perfect pout – but if the rest of your face (basically, your canvas) looks awkwardly out-of-place thanks to less than ideal foundation, it doesn’t matter.

As a self-professed makeup junkie, I’ve tried countless foundations over the years. When it comes to my favorites, from pricey (Dior, Chanel) to bargain (Almay), I’ve found some foundations I’d consider definitely worthy of recommending to a friend. But recently, I’ve switched foundations and I think I’ve found my makeup soul mate: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.

The liquid foundation goes on extremely smoothly, and just one pump provides plenty of product for your entire face with what I’d consider to be medium coverage. If you have blemishes or dark circles, another half pump or two is sufficient to hide imperfections all day.

I have combination skin, so to help the coverage last and remain matte I typically dust on a light layer of finishing powder. (My all-time favorite is still Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder.)

So let’s just get down to it.

What do I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE about Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation?

Silky smooth feel and effortlessly even application
Excellent coverage for imperfections
Impressively long-lasting, never creases

What am I not so crazy about?

The price.

While this foundation is worth every penny in my opinion, it will set you back a bit. One bottle is $60. (ouch) However, I purchased my first bottle back in January, and it doesn’t seem to even be close to the end. As mentioned above, one pump is enough for moderate coverage all over, and an extra half pump will is sufficient if you have some imperfections to address.

Stila Major Lash Mascara (Review)

I hate to post negative reviews – but as a beauty addict and blogger, I’d be wrong to not share when I’m less than impressed with a product (especially one I have high hopes for!). Several weeks ago Hautelook featured a sale on Stila, one of the first makeup brands I ever fell in love with. Being in need of new mascara, Stila Major Lash Mascara founds its way to my shopping cart.

This luxurious cream-based formula adds instant pigment to shine and define. It can be layered for a more dramatic look, keeps lashes soft, and curls on command.

The best part is there is no flaking and lashes remain large and in charge throughout the day.

I have to say – I’m really glad that I didn’t get around to writing this review right away. Because my opinion changed, big time. The first few times I used this mascara, I loved it! Application was easy and clump free, and I really liked how it made my lashes look longer and more defined. It was a different look that what I’m used to with my regular standby, Diorshow (which I love) – but it wasn’t different in bad way. I liked the more natural look, which is perfect for daytime.

However, just about two weeks later, my opinion has unfortunately changed for the worse. While all mascaras seem to dry out or become prone to clumpiness after a few months, Stila Major Lash Mascara has prematurely aged, and badly. Clumps, clumps, clumps, and more clumps.

To no avail, I’ve tried all the tricks I know to get more life out of this mascara. I’ve tried to be super careful to sweep the brush back and forth as I apply. I’ve tried to spin the applicator on the way out of the bottle to remove excess product. And I’ve tried my most trusty trick – heating up the mascara bottle with my blow dryer prior to application – with little to no improvement.

While I still love Stila, the Major Lash Mascara is just not for me. Have you tried it? We’d love to hear your opinion in the comments below!
